On Saturday, September 27, 2008, GECA re-applied with the Internal Revenue Service for formal recognition as a section 501(c)(3) organization as a public charity. GECA expects to hear back from IRS within the next six weeks.
Perry Jones, Ellen Johnson and Phil Johnson are participating in this year's annual Pensacola Little Theatre 24-hour theatre where plays are literally written, the cast is cast, and then the show goes on the next evening. So many of you have emailed me wanting to know what happened at our membership meeting (Saturday, September 6, 2008), that I will try to give you some of the highlights.
We are moving ahead in trying to obtain our tax free number. This is very exciting as it gives us the oppotunity to begin looking for a building suitable for a theater! We elected a steering committee to begin looking into this and begin the early planning. Members of that committee are: Jerry Janes, Phil Johnson, Ellis Beachy, Sharon Poulsen and Pam Dees.
At Phil's suggestion we took another look at next summer's production. It seems that royalties for Meet Me In St. Louis are unusually high and that the play only calls for 12 actors--not what we want for a summer show. Our second choice was Beauty and the Beast. With the stipulation that we obtain outside casting help, the membership voted to do this as next summer's show. It has lots and lots of parts and is very well known. We should be able to fill an auditorium with this show.
Our calendar for next year was approved as follows: Steel Magnolias will be performed in October, You're A Good Man,Charlie Brown will be performed in April and Beauty and the Beast will be performed in July.
